UnitedHealthcare, Alabama's second largest health insurer, has announced that nationwide more than million in payments have been made online to more than 50,000 health care providers through a new online bill payment system.
The secure online service called myClaims Manager is available to 21 million UnitedHealthcare plan participants nationwide, including 252,169 in Alabama, the company said in a news release.
Besides paying bills the service helps consumers better manage their finances, by tracking medical expenses for taxes, providing claim details and helping customers resolve discrepancies, the company says.
The state's largest insurer, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, also offers customers the ability to make online premium payments using credit card, debit and bank accounts through their myBlueCross plan at AlabamaBlue.com.
According to the American Medical Association, online billing will become increasingly important as more people pay bigger portions of their health care bills. About two-thirds of doctor practices accept credit cards, according to SK A Information Services.
