Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport installs new flight information displays
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- New flight information displays are being added at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, airport officials said Tuesday.
Installation began Tuesday morning on 12 new flight displays.Nine more will be added when Concourse C renovations are complete, which is expected by summer 2014.
Airport officials said in a statement that the new boards are in response to passenger requests for more flight information.
They are the first new display boards added since a larger flight board designed by a different company and injuring some of his family members.
The new displays were manufactured by Pittsburgh-based Forms Services, which specializes in furniture and fixtures for public facilities.
Airport spokeswoman Toni Bast said the displays are identical to the . They consist of an open frame with a set of monitors in the middle.
The displays will provide arrival and departure information and city information to travelers.
Installation is being done by the terminal project's contractor, Bast said.Brasfield Gorrie and Bloc Global Services Group are the joint-venture leaders of the project.The airport had four large floor-mounted displays manufactured by a different company when its newly renovated terminal opened on March 13.
All of those large displays were removed after the March 22 incident, leaving only smaller mounted displays.
Bast said the new displays are included in the overall under way.
