BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Nov. 18, 2013 Sirote & Permutt attorney Howard Neiswender is newly certified as an Estate Planning Law Specialist by the Estate Law Specialist Board, Inc., an organization accredited by the American Bar Association and affiliated with the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils.
Neiswender is a wealth planner with more than 25 years of experience in working with businesses and individuals in the areas of advanced tax planning, estate planning, asset protection planning, business succession planning and charitable planning. He also assists both U.S. and foreign individuals with establishing structures to hold investments, minimize taxes and accomplish other goals of international estate and tax planning.
Neiswender is the former Head of Planning for a national wealth advisory firm and is a former Adjunct Professor in the University of Alabama School of Law s LL.M in Taxation program. He has taught extensively for the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Alabama Society of Enrolled Assets. He was a national instructor for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and has spoken around the country at various seminars.
Neiswender is a co-author of the book International Estate Planning Strategies, published by Thomson Reuters. He has also been published in the national publications of Estate Planning magazine and the Million Dollar Round Table magazine.
Additionally, Neiswender is a Trust and Estate Practitioner with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and is a Certified Financial Planner . He is a member of the Financial Planning Association (North Alabama Chapter), the Family Firm Institute and the Society of Financial Service Professionals. Neiswender is also recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for both Tax Law and Trusts & Estates Law.
To become Board-certified as an Estate Planning Law Specialist, an attorney must have devoted at least one-third of his or her practice to estate planning for a minimum of five years. In addition to passing a comprehensive examination in estate planning law, the attorney must also receive recommendations from five colleagues and must establish that he or she has at least 36 continuing legal education credits within the last three years.
The Estate Law Specialist Board, Inc., an attorney-run affiliate of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils in Cleveland, Ohio, is the only ABA-accredited program for certification of an attorney as an Estate Planning Law Specialist.
