One of the top remaining targets on Alabama's board for 2014, Hoover five-star Marlon Humphrey is one of the best cornerback prospects in the country.
But as he showed again on Friday night, Humphrey can do more than just cover receivers.
Shades Valley, led by 2015 defensive tackle prospect Daron Payne, attempted to kick away from Humphrey, the son of Alabama great Bobby Humphrey, during Friday's second-round 6A state playoff game. But Humphrey tracked one down at the Bucs' 18 and raced 82 yards for a touchdown in Hoover's 33-14 win on Friday.
Humphrey's prowess as a punt returner was far from a secret, however. He also returned one 76 yards for a score in front of a national audience on ESPNU in a 41-0 win over Tuscaloosa County last month.
Several other Alabama commitments or targets enjoyed postseason success Friday night, as well.
Offensive line commit Josh Casher and St. Paul's Episcopal edged Benjamin Russell 20-14 on Austin Moseley's 1-yard touchdown run in overtime. Linebacker commit Shaun Dion Hamilton and the Carver-Montgomery defense held Fairhope to 85 second-half yards in a 33-6 win over the Pirates.
The high school teams of Cameron Robinson, Viane Talamaivao, Christian Miller, Kalvaraz Bessent and Chris Williams all won in their respective playoff brackets.
Two other Alabama commitments weren't so fortunate, however, as five-star defensive end Da'Shawn Hand's Woodbridge (Va.) squad fell 26-21 to Varina and Calera lost 35-24 to Dadeville despite 222 yards rushing from Tide athlete commit Ronnie Clark.
As the Crimson Tide tries to again defend its national championship in football, no university may defend its trademarks and logos more vigorously than Alabama.
