WHY UAB WON: UAB jumped out to a 20-point lead, but a scrappy Troy team cut it to six late in the first half. The Blazers held on throughout the second half. UAB, like it did against Rutgers, had a commanding lead on the boards. That's good, because the Blazers had more than enough turnovers to lose the game against a better team.
TOP UAB PLAYER: 6-foot-8 junior forward C.J. Washington continued his high-scoring ways and had his second-straight double-double. He did battle foul trouble, getting his fourth with eight minutes to go. Washington finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
SUPPORTING CAST: Fahro Alihodzic also had his second-straight double double, getting 10 points and 10 rebounds. Rob Williams didn't start the game, but was on the floor at the end for the second straight tight game (though, this one wasn't as tight as Rutgers, but Troy hung in there). Williams scored 12 with 8 rebounds. Chad Frazier had 10 points and seven assists.
TOP TROY PLAYER: Kevin Thomas, a 6-foot-8 junior forward, was Troy's best player on the floor. He scored 19 with 7 rebounds.
SUPPORTING CAST: Senior guard Hunter Williams kept Troy in the game with his shooting. He scored 14 with six rebounds and six assists.
KEY TEAM STAT: UAB dominated the boards, outrebounding Troy 53-24. UAB also had 20 turnovers to Troy's 7.
UP NEXT: UAB plays in the Charleston Classic beginning next Thursday at 2 p.m. against New Mexico. The game will be televised on ESPNU. Troy hosts Nicholls State on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
